Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort is preparing for its official return on the New York State gaming scene. The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe-Akwesasne is preparing for the official reopening set to take place on August 31, bringing diverse in-person gaming for everyone interested. Hogansburg residents are expected to be among the first patrons making their way there.
New York State’s gaming scene has been directly affected by the lockdown situation, as brick-and-mortar casinos had to be shut down mid-March and protect both casino players and casino staff members. Tribal gaming compacts between the Native American tribes and the government allow them to make decisions autonomously without following the existing permissions. This has allowed the tribal nation the freedom to make decisions on its own.
In-Person Gaming
The tribal nation wanted to reintroduce in-person casino gaming on the premises of its casino resort and this is bound to happen this Monday. The original plan for action was to witness the reopening of Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort back in July, but the unprecedented situation was dynamically changing and this prevented the reopening from happening then.
Now it is time for a change, as the tribal casino operation will return to its normal pace. There are some special conditions that will aim to protect the people making their way there on a daily basis. The safety protocols would aim to protect the individuals and promote physical distance among them while gambling activities are taking place. All patrons will have to wear face masks at all times while they are gambling.
Moreover, they should expect a special screening upon entering the casino venue with some questions seeking more information about them and their daily life. They will have to answer where they live, whether they have any symptoms, and whether they have been in a larger group of individuals in the past week. Casino patrons will also have their temperature checked.

Todd Papineau, the general manager of the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort, pointed out that these special measures will aim to make the gaming session of each individual safer and more pleasant at the end of the day. The tribal nation feels responsible for the well-being of the community and the people making their way there will have to take into account the special measures.
Some of the slot machines available there have been switched off in order to promote physical distance and up to six feet between the devices and respectively the players. For the time being, patrons will not be able to participate in table gaming and bingo activities on the premises of the tribal casino venue. No smoking will be allowed within Akwesasne Mohawk Casino, as the management wants to protect its players.
Drinking will also remain unavailable within the first weeks of operation. As for the number of players allowed on the premises of the casino venue at all times, it will reach 750. It should be noted that the maximum capacity is 5,000, and the current situation will mandate a 15-percent occupancy of the gaming floor.
